Electrical Vehicle (EV) Parking
All vehicles plugged into the Electrical Vehicle (EV) chargers must pay to park on college property via HonkMobile.
Any compatible Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) or EVs can charge their vehicle at a ChargePoint electric vehicle charging station. All stations are publicly accessible.
EV charging stations are available on college properties:
- Welland Campus: in Lot G.
- NOTL in front of the Marotta Family Innovation Complex in lot B and behind the Residence building.
Anyone using a charging station, except for students, must pay to charge their vehicle; payment must be made through the ChargePoint app. All EV charger users must sign up for a ChargePoint account.
Setting Up your ChargePoint Account:
- Download the ChargePoint app from the app store and sign up for an account.
- Some stations require a “connection” before drivers can use them. To request a new connection, go to the main menu in the app and select Account > Connections > Browse, then enter your connection code:
- Students will enter: NCS2022 into the search and press search, they will see “Students-Niagara College Canada – Free Charging.” A new screen will appear asking for student email address and student ID number.
- Employees will enter: NCSTAFF into the search and press search, they will see “Faculty-Niagara College Canada – Faculty Pricing”. A new screen will appear asking for college email address
- Users will need to input a credit card, Google Pay, or Apple Pay information into the ChargePoint app to use the chargers
- All other users (e.g., visitors) are required to use ChargePoint and will be charged the regular rate.
Using the EV Chargers:
- Users’ phones will need to have the Near Field Communication (NFC) setting on their phone turned on, but the ChargePoint app does not need to be open.
- Users will scan their phone at the charger and follow the directions on the charger screen.
- The ChargePoint app will send a notification to the user’s phone when their vehicle is fully charged.
- To ensure adequate charging spots for all users, staff and students will be charged an idle fee after 45 minutes of being plugged in with a full vehicle charge. All other users will be charged a fee after 30 minutes.
- ChargePoint fees continue to accumulate after the battery is fully charged and only stops once the vehicle is unplugged.
