Weapon on Campus

Unauthorized use or possession of firearms, replica firearms, weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances is strictly forbidden on Niagara College property.

Anyone found in violation of this practice shall be disciplined by the College and/or prosecuted under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Exceptions

The following exceptions apply:

  • Explosive substances stored in accordance with college requirements and used as part of the curriculum in college supervised laboratories for the purposes of conducting research and teaching, providing they are being used for the purposes intended.
  • The wearing of a ceremonial item (e.g. kirpan) that is part of an individual’s religious and cultural requirements.
  • Peace officers and members of the Canadian Armed Forces attending college premises in the course of their duty. Weapons used within the confines of the Centre for Policing and Community Safety shall be subject to procedures used by the Niagara Regional Police Service.
  • Armed security personnel collecting and transporting money on college property (e.g. Brinks).
  • Replica/imitation weapons (e.g. coloured plastic guns, rubber knives) used as part of the Justice Studies curriculum in college supervised laboratories, providing they are being used for the purposes intended, are permitted. These replicas/imitation weapons are to stay in the laboratory and are to be secured when not in use.

If you see someone on campus with a weapon:

  • From a safe location, call 911.
  • Report to the Security Control Centre by calling 905-735-2211, ext. 6999.
