Academic Integrity & Honesty

Academic integrity at Niagara College means that all learners must conduct themselves in an honest and trustworthy manner in all aspects of their academic careers.

Engaging in any form of academic misconduct to obtain an academic advantage or credit is an offence and constitutes a violation of academic integrity. Actions of Academic Dishonesty include but are not limited to the following:

  • Dishonesty on test/exams, assignments, lab work/reports, projects, social media posts and more.
  • Plagiarism: The use of someone else’s work and presenting it as one’s own without properly documenting the source. This includes but is not limited to words, images, ideas, phrases, signatures and/or computations. Refer to the Sections on Citations and Plagiarism.
  • The unauthorized use of Gen AI. Refer to Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence Statement.
  • Falsification of an Academic Credential: Submission or use of an academic credential such as a transcript, diploma, or degree that has been falsified, tampered with or modified in any way.
  • Falsification of documents: Submission or use of any documents such as Medical notes, resumes, references and  any other forms that have been falsified, tampered with or modified in any way.

The academic integrity values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage provide the guiding principles for our commitment to fostering ethical learning and academic excellence. In line with our expectations of the college community and our commitment to producing high-quality graduates, Niagara College must maintain the highest standards of academic honesty.

Read NC’s Academic Honesty policy and be sure you understand your responsibilities as a student. Not knowing the policy will not prevent you from facing disciplinary action.
