Academic Rights and Responsibilities Policy
All students are expected to act responsibly and uphold standards of conduct that form the basis for good citizenship which includes civility, responsibility and respect. Your academic rights and responsibilities as an NC student are outlined in this policy. Take some time to read it and become familiar with this important document.
Student Code of Conduct
The Student Code of Conduct provides a framework to resolve incidents of non-academic student misconduct and an understanding of the rights, responsibilities, and standards of conduct expected of all students at Niagara College.
Campus Community Safety manages reports of non-academic student misconduct and supports accountability, and the informal resolution of issues where possible. We have a shared responsibility as a campus community to foster a safe, respectful and welcoming learning, working, and living environment. Incidents of non-academic misconduct are resolved through the fair processes outlined in the Student Code of Conduct policy and procedure.
The Student Support & Advocacy team can help students explore their options when conflicts and concerns arise. They can help you to:
- Understand your rights and responsibilities as a student
- Review your options when you have a concern or complaint about issues that could be a violation of college policies
- Discuss ways to resolve conflicts

Taking Responsibility for Your Learning
As a college student and adult learner, you are in charge of your success. While there are many campus resources to support you on your journey, you need to develop your own planning and organizational skills so that you can stay motivated, meet deadlines, and seek help when you are struggling.

- Actively participating in your courses and other college activities, like clubs, events and volunteer opportunities
- Communicating with professors, staff and classmates in respectful and timely ways
- Keeping track of key deadlines and important dates
- Understanding your student rights and responsibilities

- Behaving respectfully in all interactions with members of the college community
