Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Secure your student account by setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA).
MFA is now mandatory for all NC students. Please read the information below and follow the set up instructions to access your NC account when logging in from off-campus.
What is multi-factor authentication?
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an additional layer of protection for your Niagara College account and is simple to use.
- MFA combines something you know – your password – with something you have – typically, a mobile device like your smart phone or a hardware-based authentication security token.
- By responding to an app request on your phone, answering a phone call, replying to a SMS text message or by inserting or tapping your security token, you verify that the login request to your account is valid.
- With MFA in effect even if someone knows your password, they will not be able to access your account because they will be missing the MFA component.
How do I set up MFA?
Visit the ITS website at its.niagaracollege.ca/multi-factor-authentication-mfa/ for set up instructions.
Types of authentication
Of the four methods, ITS recommends receiving notifications from the authentication app as it is quick to set up and easy to use.
If you decide to use the security token, please note that you must purchase the token in advance and configure it to work with your account. While security token is not the preferred method for MFA, students wishing to use a token must purchase the ITS approved and compatible token. The ITS Service Desk is available to help if needed.
