Future student wins $3,000 tuition credit

Future Niagara College student Leanna Heida (right) receives a ‘cheque’ for $3,000 towards her tuition from college on campus recruiter and events coordinator Carly Root.

St. Catharines resident Leanna Heida is one step closer to achieving her dreams, as the winner of a $3,000 credit towards her first year’s tuition at Niagara College.

The future student, who is enrolled in the College’s Hairstyling diploma program for September, became eligible to win the tuition credit after attending the College’s 2016 Spring Open House. The prize was open to any future student who attended the College’s Spring Open House on April 2 and the winner was randomly drawn among registrants following the event.

College recruitment and marketing staff recently surprised the 23 year old with the news at a local coffee shop.

“I was very surprised. I remember filling out the form at the open house knowing I probably wouldn’t win but it was worth a shot … and I’m glad I did,” said Heida who currently has a part-time job in retail and also works as a freelance photographer. “It feels great! The $3,000 will definitely help me achieve my career goals.”

After previously attending college for graphic design and photography, Heida became interested in Niagara College due to its reputation for its Hairstyling diploma program.

“The open house was very helpful. I learned so much more about my program,” she said. “I had already accepted my offer however, after hearing all about the program, I know I have made the right decision.”

“We strongly believe in the value of an applied education, and are pleased to help make a future student’s career dreams come true,” said Dorita Pentesco, director of Marketing, Communications and Recruitment. “Niagara College looks forward to welcoming Leanna and all of our new students to the College this fall.”

More than 3,800 people attended the College’s Spring Open House on April 2, held at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses.
