CARE Referral
Are you experiencing a crisis?
Get Help NowAre you a staff member concerned about a student’s well-being?
Employees who have a heightened concern about a student’s wellbeing or ability to manage the demands of post-secondary life may submit a CARE referral. Concerns may include:
- signs of distress
- significant changes in mood or behaviour
- concerns about mental health or overall wellness
- financial or other personal pressures
- drug or alcohol use or misuse
- direct or indirect references to suicide, wanting to die, or the potential for harm to self or others
Employees are encouraged to refer whenever they are concerned about a student, even if they are unsure of the level of risk or what supports may be appropriate. The CARE Team will assess the concern and, where appropriate, coordinate support and referrals to help promote the student’s safety, wellbeing, and success.
SHCS OR SAS is not an emergency crisis service. If this student is currently experiencing an emergency/crisis or requires immediate assistance/intervention, please call 911 and then Campus Security at 905-735-2211 ext. 6999. The submission page is only monitored during business hours.
