A message from Dr. Chris McGrath, Vice-President, Students

As summer comes to a close, Niagara College is preparing to welcome students for the Fall 2026 term. For many, September marks the beginning of their #ncLIFE journey, while others are returning to campus to reconnect with classmates, faculty and the NC community. No matter where students are in their NC journey, the start of a new term is an important opportunity to help them feel welcomed, supported and set up for success.

Whether you work directly with students or behind the scenes, the small, everyday interactions you have can make a meaningful difference. A friendly greeting, a willingness to help, or simply being approachable can go a long way in creating a positive and inclusive campus environment.

NC employees: Help create a warm welcome for students

Fall Orientation takes place on Tuesday, September 8, with classes beginning on Wednesday, September 9. Orientation programming continues throughout the first six weeks of the semester, offering students opportunities to build connections, explore campus life, and become familiar with the many resources and supports available to them.

Employees are encouraged to support students wherever they can. Keeping an eye out for those who may need directions, offering assistance when possible, or helping answer questions all contribute to a welcoming campus atmosphere and help students feel at ease as they navigate new spaces, routines and experiences. I invite all employees to wear some NC gear and their nametags, and spend some time around campus to help our students feel welcomed and connected!

Helpful tools and resources to guide your support

Make it easier to guide students and enhance their on-campus experience by exploring and promoting the following resources:

  • Student Referral Guide: This new online resource will help you refer students to the College’s range of student services so that students get the support they need, when they need it! It includes helpful information about how to make an effective referral, an overview of our student services, and new contact information for the 2026-2026 academic year.
  • Orientation Website: Learn about transition programming, program information sessions, and activities to better assist students with questions or concerns via the Orientation website. Our programming extends beyond May 8 and includes a series of activities and events over the first six weeks of the semester that help students to get connected.
  • LauNCh guide: This helpful online resource provides students with resources about the ‘how to’ of #ncLIFE. Many employees will also find it helpful! It includes information about things that a lot of students worry about on their first day, such as getting their Student ID, accessing wifi and email, and finding their timetables. It provides instructions on how to access BrightSpace, in addition to a wealth of academic and personal support resources.
  • NC Engage App: Get familiar with the NC Engage App to help students discover campus activities, events, and opportunities to connect with others. The app also includes access to the Co-Curricular Record (CCR), so students can track their involvement and build out their resumes.
  • NC Mobile App: The NC Mobile App features an interactive Wayfinding Tool that provides directions around campus, making it especially useful for new students finding their way to classes for the first time.

Looking ahead to a successful Fall term

The welcoming, student-focused spirit that defines NC is reflected in the everyday actions of our employees. Thank you for helping create an environment where every student feels supported, connected and confident as they begin or continue their NC journey this fall.
