A Niagara College employee will be taking to the airwaves on popular FM radio station 102.1 the Edge.
Outreach and Education Coordinator Alison Ryder will help host the station’s afternoon show on August 25 alongside host Casey-Jo. Ryder, who has been tuning in to the Edge since her teenage years, is looking forward to the experience of a lifetime, which she won by entering the “Edge’s 5k Fan Friday” contest.
After making a case for why she is the ultimate “Edge Super Fan,” Ryder was chosen as one of four contest winners who gets the opportunity to take over the station for one Friday. She will appear live on air from 3 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 when she visits the Toronto-based station to demonstrate her fandom further. The Edge will also be renamed in her honour for the day.

As a passionate NC employee and a Niagara native, Ryder hopes to talk about the great things happening at the College and in the Niagara community while on air.
She is also a proud member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and has been a strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion within Niagara and at NC, working tirelessly to promote a safe and inclusive school environment for all students.
The award-winning employee wrote an article in 2022 for a local newspaper which chronicled her own experience of coming out and the unwavering support she received from her mother – a story they both shared earlier this year at a June 7 Living Library event hosted by ncLibraries.
Ryder also hopes to share some of her personal story on air, while she proves her affinity to the Edge.

Colleagues and students can listen to Ryder, Aug. 25 from 3 to 7 p.m., during her 102.1 the Edge takeover. Tune in at 102.1 FM or listen online.
The opportunity also comes with a chance at winning $5,000. After each 5k Fan Friday contest winner has their moment in the spotlight, listeners can cast their vote for their favourite “Edge Super Fan.” Voting takes place between September 1 and 8 on the Edge’s TikTok page.
