Student Perspectives on Online Learning Survey FAQ
Niagara College wants to hear from you about your experiences and perspectives on online assessments and online proctoring.
The College is exploring the use of an online proctoring tool and wants to hear from students before moving forward. Online proctoring means supervising an online exam using your computer’s webcam, microphone, and screen-sharing technology. The system uses automated features to identify and flag activity that may need to be reviewed by an instructor. It can be used to verify your identity and support academic integrity, similar to supervision in a traditional, in-person test environment.
The Student Perspectives on Online Learning survey asks about your experiences with online learning and assessments, including what works well, what can be challenging, and the supports that are important to you.
The survey is being conducted by Niagara College’s Centre for Academic Excellence (CAE), with survey administration and technical support from Institutional Analytics & Reporting (IAR).

Purpose of the Survey
Your feedback will help Niagara College understand what students need and prefer when it comes to online assessments and online proctoring:
- what concerns or challenges students may have;
- what information, resources, or supports students may need;
- accessibility and equity considerations;
- how students would prefer information about online proctoring to be communicated; and
- what students would expect from a fair process when an online exam session is reviewed.
The Student Perspectives on Online Learning survey will be open from September 23 to September 29, 2026.
Eligibility to Participate
The Student Perspectives on Online Learning Survey is open to all current Niagara College students enrolled in the Fall 2026 term.
Participation is voluntary.
What Participation Involves
Participation involves completing an online and anonymous survey through NC Engage without logging into the app.
The survey will take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete.
Participation is voluntary. Choosing whether or not to participate will have no effect on your status at Niagara College.
You may choose not to answer any question you do not wish to answer.
The survey also includes demographic questions and an opportunity to provide additional comments or suggestions about online assessments, online proctoring, and related student supports.
Once you submit the survey, your responses will be considered final.

Students who complete the Student Perspectives on Online Learning survey will have the option to enter separate prize draws for a chance to win one of three $50 NC Cash prizes.
Two $50 NC Cash prizes will be awarded through an early-bird draw, and one $50 NC Cash prize will be awarded through a final draw after the survey closes.

Anonymity and Privacy
The Student Perspectives on Online Learning survey is anonymous. Your name and Niagara College student email address will not be collected as part of your survey responses.
If you choose to enter the prize draw after completing the survey, you will be directed to a separate prize-draw entry form where your Niagara College student email address will be collected. Information submitted through the prize-draw form will be kept separate from your survey responses and cannot be used to identify how you responded to the survey.
Survey findings will be analyzed and reported in aggregate wherever possible. If written comments are included in reporting, they will be reviewed and identifying details will be removed wherever possible.
Information collected through the survey will be used by Niagara College for purposes related to planning an online proctoring pilot, including student communications, supports, accessibility and equity considerations, and future planning.

Notice of Collection
If you choose to enter the prize draw, your Niagara College student email address will be collected through a separate prize-draw entry form.
This personal information is collected under the authority of the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act and in accordance with section 38(2) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
The information collected through the prize-draw form will be used for the administration of the prize draw and will be kept separate from your survey responses.

Alternative Delivery Options
Students requiring alternative delivery options to complete the survey may:
- Have the assistance of an aid or an assistant to complete the survey (i.e. reader, scribe, etc.);
- Schedule to have the survey read or scribed online through the test centre;
- Schedule a telephone survey.
