Important Update: Niagara College classes continue during province-wide support staff strike
All Niagara College classes will continue as scheduled, as the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) has initiated a province-wide strike of full-time support staff. Picketing is taking place at all campus entrances, and students and non-striking employees should allow extra time and expect delays entering campus. A second access point is open at NOTL Campus via Lampman Court. For regular updates, transit info, and status of college services, please visit www.niagaracollege.ca/bargaining
Just as a physically healthy person can develop a physical illness, a mentally healthy person under various degrees of stress can develop a mental illness.
It’s important to recognize that mental wellness and illness are part of an ever-changing and dynamic continuum in everyone’s life. When we, or someone we know, is unable to enjoy life or deal with everyday challenges, help may be needed.
One in two Canadians have—or have had—a mental illness by the time they reach 40 years of age.
Canadian Mental Health Association
Take some time to meet the people of the Faces of Mental Illness campaign, Canadians who have lived with and are recovering from their own illness, and are generously willing to share their stories to help promote awareness, understanding and compassion.
It’s an easy-to-follow resource designed for college faculty and staff, residence advisors, student representatives and peer mentors to develop their awareness about mental health and mental illness.
