Niagara College Sustainability Plan Implementing the Plan
Implementing the Plan
Engagement Strategy
To ensure the success of Niagara College’s Sustainability Action Plan moving forward through the next five years and beyond, communication and engagement in the plan is required.
The following actions will be used to communicate the plan to the college community:
- Create annual surveys to collect information from accountable Departments and Schools.
- Develop communication material to support employees, students, and community members actively engaged in sustainability-related activities to avoid greenwashing.
- Continue to grow social media and digital content to increase transparency and build a community working towards achieving the actions in this plan.
- Identify key indicators to support annual reporting of sustainability metrics to the Board of Governors.
- Develop a shared sustainability calendar for events and days of significance.
- Create additional visual representations to simply and clearly communicate sustainability content.
- Provide annual progress reports on the Sustainability Plan.
Continuous Improvement
Niagara College is committed to ensuring progress is made on the Sustainability Plan. Several feedback mechanisms have been established.
We will:
- Maintain organizational flexibility and adaptability as environmental and climate change-related regulations and best practices change where new risks and opportunities may present themselves.
- Develop an inventory of sustainability projects and initiatives and maintain the updated inventory as progress towards targets is achieved.
- Establish working groups needed to accomplish action items.
- Connect with all departments annually to review action items and establish and maintain accountability mechanisms and progress and identify additional support needed.
- Review and update the Sustainability Plan annually.
