Language Interpreter - Capstone Course
Following a recap of the ethical principles and standards of practice, the skills of consecutive interpreting and note taking, sight translation and simultaneous interpreting. These are practiced in preparation for the course's major component; the integration of interpreter skills and competencies through a comprehensive case studies method. The final module deals with professional comportment issues and some of the financial management skills required for the interpreter who works as an independent contractor. NOTE: To qualify for completion of the Language Interpreter Program of Study, students must successfully complete a Competency Test (CILSAT or ILSAT) administered by a provincial agency. This mandatory testing is recommended to be taken after the Language Interpreter - Sight Translation course, and must be completed prior to registration in this Language Interpreter - Capstone course.
