For the fourth consecutive year riding as a team, members of the Niagara College community are gearing up for the Big Move Cancer Ride on September 11 and they’re looking for additional teammates to join them.
The annual fundraising bike ride supports the Walker Family Cancer Centre, located at Niagara Health’s St. Catharines site. Since 2008, the Big Move has raised more than $4 million in support of close-to-home cancer care for Niagara residents.
Once again this year, NC’s Big Move team will be led by Joanne Maltby (Global Business Development Manager, South Asia), Mike Pasquale (Manager, Strategic Procurement) and Janet Pizzati (former Manager, Student Financials who recently retired from the College), who are inviting the NC community to join the team in support of the cause.
“We are excited to be organizing another strong Team NC for the 2022 Big Move Cancer Ride in support of our community partner, the Walker Family Cancer Centre,” said Maltby. “Many of us have had a friend or family member affected by cancer. This is just one way for us to show them that we stand by them and those in our community facing challenges relating to cancer.”
NC employees, students, alumni, family and friends of all cycling levels – whether amateur or experienced – are welcome to join the team by registering through NC’s team page. Donations are also being accepted through the team’s page to help NC’s participants reach their $5,000 fundraising goal.
“You do not have to be a seasoned cyclist to join; you only need to bring your NC spirit, helmet and water bottle and you are good to join our team as we explore Niagara together!” said Maltby.
This year’s in-person ride begins and ends at White Meadows Farms in St. Catharines. Multiple routes are available (12km family ride, 25km, 50km and 75km), as well as a virtual ride option for those who prefer to choose their own route and ride day. More information, including registration fees, is available on the Big Move website.
NC jerseys
To ride in style in blue and white, the team is accepting orders for Niagara College branded cycling jerseys up until July 5. The preferred jersey is the relaxed fit style and it is recommended that you order one size up from your regular size. A sizing chart is available. For pricing and to place an order, contact Mike Pasquale.
