NC’s Purse Bingo fundraiser brought staff, students and community members together for an evening of bingo, bags and giving back in support of Welland Girls Sports Day.

Hosted by NC’s Athletics and Student Engagement team on March 4 at the Welland Campus, the event welcomed 171 attendees for a fun evening of friendly competition. Guests played ten bingo games, with each winner taking home a designer purse, and also had the chance to participate in a 50/50 draw.

In total, the event raised $4,901.31 in support of Welland Girls Sports Day, an annual event co-hosted by NC and the City of Welland that encourages girls in the community to explore sport, build confidence and stay active.

“We’re thrilled with the success of our first Purse Bingo fundraiser,” said Michele O’Keefe, Senior Director, Athletics & Student Engagement. “The amazing support from our Niagara College colleagues made for such a fun evening. Welland Girls Sports Day is such a worthy cause, as young girls in our community can come out, try new sports and meet a new group of girls.”

The winner of the 50/50 draw was Jeff O’Keefe, who took home $887.50.

All proceeds from the event will support the upcoming Welland Girls Sports Day, which welcomes girls aged six to 12 for a day of trying new sports and learning from local female coaches, athletes and NC student-athletes in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The fifth annual Welland Girls Sports Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at the Empire Sportsplex.
