College distillers have ‘kegged their first cocktail.’
Visitors to the Wine Visitor + Education Centre retail store can now enjoy an Old Fashioned which is now available on tap; the first cocktail available on tap from the NC Teaching Distillery.
“Essentially, when a person orders an Old Fashioned, we pour from a beer style tap (measuring the appropriate volume) add ice and an orange wedge/or wheel and it is ready,” said Head Distiller David Dickson.
The cocktail is based on the Teaching Distillery’s bourbon style spirit, Southern Hospitality. Sugar is added along cocktail bitters to match the classic cocktail, which is poured from a nitrogen gas tap.”
“We thought it would be a fun way to showcase NC product,” said Dickson. “We are happy with how it turned out and looking forward to other cocktails in the future.”
Products from NC’s Teaching Distillery are crafted by students in the Artisan Distilling program and available for purchase alongside products from the NC Teaching Winery and NC Teaching Brewery at the Wine Visitor + Education Centre retail store (Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake).

The Old Fashioned is made with Teaching Distillery’s Southern Hospitality and orange bitters.
