An article in the Niagara Dailies and Niagara This Week features NC Culinary Innovation student Michelle Lang, who was one of two students in Canada to receive to a full sponsorship to join the Concept to Market Sprint program.

The program supports aspiring entrepreneurs with dreams of breaking into the packaged food industry and is a partnership between Chartwells Thinking Ahead Giving Back and Venturepark Labs, a non-profit founded by Arlene Dickinson from CBC’s Dragon’s Den.

The article mentions that while participating in the program, Lang, who is from Hamilton, Ont., is working on a “commercial-ready version” of her family-favourite “Pie in a Jar” product, which she traditionally makes using fruit from the wild apples trees located on her property. One day Lang hopes to launch a version of the product that uses fallen tender fruit from local farmers to help prevent food waste. She will present her final product to investors through the program at the end of November.
