Niagara College raises rainbow flags at both campuses in recognition of Pride Month

Rainbow flags were raised at both the Welland Campus and the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake in recognition of Pride Month. The flags will fly over Niagara College campuses for the month of June to celebrate equality, inclusivity and acceptance in support of the college’s LBGTQ2+ community.

“The raising of the Pride flag is an important annual event at Niagara College as it reinforces our commitment to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our college including members of the LGBTQ2+ community,” said NC president, Sean Kennedy.

“Today isn’t just about raising a flag, but also confirming a commitment to ensuring Niagara College is a safe and inclusive place for all students, including members of the LGBTQ2+ community. The pride flag is a symbol that represents so much, including peace – happiness – and acceptance,” said NCSAC president, Samantha Jemison.

Niagara College was also among the first organizations in Niagara to install rainbow crosswalks at both the Welland Campus and Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2019 thanks to a student-led initiative championed by NCSAC.

Campus flags and the Rainbow Flag will remain at half-mast until Tuesday, June 8 to honour the lives and spirits of the children who were students at the Kamloops Residential School.
