With the end of a successful Fall term in sight, I’m writing to follow up on my message from late October, which outlined the College’s approach to on-campus work.
As we prepare for a Winter term that will see the current mix of remote and limited on-campus academic delivery continue, and as COVID cases continue to climb in Niagara and Ontario, our current approach to on-campus work will be extended until at least the mid-point of the Winter term (February 28), and likely through to the end of the Winter term, unless conditions change significantly. Those delivering on-campus programs and services or performing other essential on-campus work will continue to do so, while most of us will continue to work remotely. Deans and directors will maintain the discretion to allow on-campus or in-person activities where it is clear that functions can be safely completed more effectively, in a more timely way, or that there is a considerable benefit to student/customer service.
As outlined previously, any future return to work will be carefully planned, gradual, flexible and well-informed by employee feedback. Employees returning to work will receive advance notice and we will provide as much opportunity as possible to adapt to a return to on-campus work, while ensuring that appropriate supports are available for the transition.
We are actively monitoring the evolution of the current pandemic very closely, and we consult regularly with Niagara Region Public Health to ensure that our on-campus measures and protocols are current, effective, and reflect the latest advice of public health authorities. Recognizing evolving information and expectations regarding COVID-19 and associated measures, we will soon be launching updated online Safe Return Orientation videos for students, employees and managers. Watch for further information on these important tools, including timelines and requirements for completion, in the near future.
The success of the Fall term is a reflection of our College’s ability to persevere and adapt, without losing focus on the success of our students. Whether you’re delivering programs or services on campus, or supporting the day-to-day operations from a remote workspace, your hard work and ongoing dedication is greatly appreciated by your colleagues and by our students. This success is also due in large part to the shared commitment of those working and studying on campus to be vigilant in following the measures, protocols and guidelines that we have put in place which is more important than ever, given the current trajectory of the pandemic. All of us share a responsibility for limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our work and in our daily lives. Your continued cooperation and understanding is appreciated, and I would also ask that you continue to not only follow these guidelines and measures, but also remind students and colleagues of these important steps when necessary.
If you have further questions regarding return to work, please contact your dean or director. For information regarding COVID-19 and the college’s practices and protocols, please visit www.niagaracollege.ca/covid19.
