As we approach the mid-term break, I’m writing to follow up on my message from late August, which outlined the College’s approach for a return to on-campus work.
At the outset of the Fall term, employees involved in the delivery of on-campus programs and services returned to campus, joining those who are performing other essential on-campus work. In the fall, deans and directors were also given discretion to allow on-campus/in-person activities where there is significant value in doing so.
With the decision to continue remote and hybrid delivery of our programs for the Winter 2021 term, and with COVID cases climbing in Niagara and Ontario, our current approach to on-campus work will be extended through the remainder of the Fall term. Those delivering on-campus programs and services or performing other essential on-campus work will continue to do so, while most of us will still work remotely. Deans and directors will allow on-campus or in-person activities where it is clear that functions can be safely completed more effectively, in a more timely way, or that there is a considerable benefit to student/customer service.
We are monitoring the evolution of the pandemic very closely, including the latest government measures and directives, and I will provide a further update on on-campus work in December. As outlined previously, any return to work will be carefully planned, gradual, flexible and well-informed by employee feedback. Anyone returning to work will be given ample notice and we will provide as much opportunity as possible to adapt to a change from remote to on-campus work, while ensuring that appropriate supports are available for the transition.
Whether you are working remotely or on-campus, I want to extend my sincere gratitude for your ongoing commitment and dedication to our college and our students during exceptional and challenging times.
For those working on-campus, I also want to thank you for contributing to a safe and healthy workplace by following the measures, protocols and guidelines that we have put in place. All of us share a responsibility for limiting the spread of COVID-19 on our campuses and in our community. Your continued cooperation and understanding is appreciated, and I would also ask that you continue to not only follow these guidelines and measures in your own work, but also remind students and colleagues of these important steps when necessary.
If you have further questions regarding return to work, please contact your dean or director. For information regarding COVID-19 and the college’s practices and protocols, please visit www.niagaracollege.ca/covid19.
