More than 1,000 NC students graduated on October 30 during NC’s Virtual Fall Convocation ceremonies and Kris Dube with the Niagara Dailies wrote about the special day.
Two ceremonies were held: a morning ceremony for the schools of allied health, community services, justice and fitness, nursing and personal support worker, and an afternoon ceremony for students graduating from the schools of academic, liberal and access studies; business and management; hospitality, tourism and sport; environment and horticulture; media; and trades.
In the article, Dube highlights keynote speaker Mark Suknanan – a BRTF alumnus (2012) who was presented with NC’s Distinguished Alumni Award and who delivered an inspiring speech about his life journey so far. From growing up as a kid in Whitby, Ontario, becoming the face and host of YTV’s The Zone, and most recently, being crowned as Canada’s Next Drag Superstar on Canada’s Drag Race (2020), Suknanan, who is also known as his drag alter ego Priyanka, drew viewers in with his message of positivity and perseverance.
