Niagara College is preparing to celebrate its Class of 2020 with its first ever virtual convocation ceremonies – and staff and faculty members are encouraged to get involved.
Virtual ceremonies will be held from June 15 to June 19, including two convocation ceremonies each day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. View the Spring 2020 virtual convocation schedule here.
Grouped by academic schools/ program areas, the virtual ceremonies will allow our students to celebrate each other’s accomplishments live and in the moment.
During the live ceremony celebrations, each graduate’s name will be read, student awards will be issued, a national Canadian speaker will share words of inspiration, and personal messages of well wishes from staff and faculty will be shared.
To complement each ceremony, a series of live Zoom viewing parties will bring graduates and staff together. Clips from the Zoom viewing parties will also be shown intermittently during the live stream convocation ceremonies.
The virtual ceremonies will be available for viewing on the Virtual Convocation website (visit specific ceremony page and the livestream will appear on that page).
Here are a few ways staff and faculty can help make spring convocation for our Class of 2020 graduates:
Send well wishes to graduates
Staff and faculty who have worked closely with our graduates are invited to submit video messages of congratulations. These messages will be woven into the live convocation ceremonies.
Brief messages may be submitted to niagaracollege.ca/enrolmentservices/virtual-convocation/submissions. The deadline to submit is Monday, June 8 (allowing time for the content to be sorted and incorporated into the ceremonies).
Encourage student participation
Reach out to graduates by email or social media and encourage them to participate in their scheduled ceremonies. The College is working hard to create a memorable experience for the graduates to celebrate their accomplishments in the moment, despite the circumstances presented by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Staff and faculty are encouraged to support the College community by promoting the event as much as possible.
Post and share content on social media
Post and share messages via social media that encourage participation in the virtual ceremonies and/or share memories from the academic year. Content posted with the hashtag #NCgrad2020 will also appear on the College’s convocation tagboard. Stay connected with NC’s social channels for ongoing updates.
During the ceremony, likes, comments and reactions will be visible on the live stream.
