Shayla Vize with CHCH News shared news of a large donation by Niagara College to support front-line health care workers who are helping those in Niagara recover from COVID-19.
Hundreds of boxes including 30,000 pieces of personal protective equipment were donated to the Niagara Health Foundation on April 2. NC’s Pam Skinner, senior vice-president, Corporate Services, Katie McQuestion, Campus Safety and Emergency Management coordinator, and Gordon Maretzki, centre manager, Advanced Manufacturing, Niagara College Research & Innovation, are pictured loading boxes for the delivery.
The donation includes 23,000 gloves, 3,130 masks, 3,760 protective garments, over 330 cleaning supplies, and almost 150 safety glasses and shields.
The story notes the efforts of NC’s Research & Innovation Division who developed a method of producing face shields on campus using laser-cutting technology and computer design tools. NC will be donating 7,000 face shields to the Niagara Health Foundation at no cost.
NC’s Teaching Distillery also receives a mention for producing a 70 per cent alcohol disinfectant for Niagara Health to help address an urgent need for sanitizer.
