NC President Sean Kennedy spoke with Newstalk 610 CKTB’s Matt Holmes about ways that NC is helping local healthcare workers in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kennedy notes the donation of masks, gloves and other personal protective equipment from the College’s inventory, from a variety of program areas, for use by healthcare workers in Niagara.

Other initiatives which leverage NC’s innovative facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, and faculty expertise include the production of face shields through Research and Innovation and the Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre. Using laser-cutting machines and computer design technology, NC will produce 2,000 face shields according to the safety specifications set out by health officials to be used by front-line healthcare workers as they treat patients with COVID-19.

Finally, Kennedy notes the work of faculty in NC’s Teaching Distillery – the only one of it’s kind in Canada – where they have been producing 70% alcohol for hand sanitizer and surface disinfectant since March 16.

Kennedy commends the hard work and sacrifice of healthcare workers and reaffirms NC’s commitment to the Niagara community in fighting the battle against COVID-19.
