Niagara College made local news on March 27 for innovating to support local healthcare initiatives in the fight against COVID-19. NC’s Walker Advanced Manufacturing Centre is leveraging laser-cutting technology and computer design tools to produce 2,000 face shields for healthcare workers in the region.
Also noted is NC’s Teaching Distillery who, since March 16, has been producing a 70 per cent alcohol disinfectant, which can be used for hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.
Finally, NC was recognized for collecting urgently needed personal protective equipment from various areas around campus to be donated to local healthcare workers.
NC President Sean Kennedy is quoted, saying:
“We know there is no greater inspiration than the tireless efforts of those who are working within the healthcare system in the face of this unprecedented challenge. We’re leveraging our college’s innovative spirit to provide support in any way we can.”
