This past Wednesday, over 600 staff and faculty joined together to kick-off another exciting academic year at Niagara Day – and what a moving, motivational day it was.
Throughout the morning, we heard messages from members of our College community highlighting the incredible work completed over this past year in addition to new programs and initiatives launching this fall, including the unveiling of a new Knights logo. Inspiring stories from our colleagues encouraged us to embody the NC DNA, sharing our welcoming, passionate and trailblazing spirits with the fresh wave of students arriving in just a few days.
We celebrated the many accomplishments of our staff and faculty, including this year’s College Educator Development Program graduates and service award recipients. For the first time in Niagara College history, three of our employees reached the 40 years of service milestone – an incredible feat! Congratulations to Philip Durrant, Ray Sarkis and James Vida for your continuous dedication and commitment to the College. The Niagara Champion Award was presented to Mike Matheson, Engineering Technologist. Mike’s efforts in creating memorable experiences for potential students coupled with his positive attitude and passion for Niagara College make him a well-deserving recipient of this award.
The presentation of the Awards of Excellence recognized three outstanding employees for their contributions to the College, staff and students alike. I am so proud to share in the celebration of the accomplishments of these inspiring individuals. A heartfelt congratulations to our 2019 Awards of Excellence recipients: for Support Staff: Jackie Chambers-Page, Library Facilitator, Information Literacy; for Administration: Sarah Scott, Manager, Dining Operations, CFWI; for Faculty: Alexander McGlashan, Professor, School of Technology. Be sure to visit InsideNC in the coming weeks for more in-depth profiles on these exceptional recipients.
We are fortunate to have incredibly talented staff and students who create the amazing videos we show at this event. I am pleased share links to the following videos with you and encourage those who were unable to attend Niagara Day to watch them for an extra dose of inspiration and excitement as we head into September.

Every year at Niagara Day, it is extremely rewarding and inspiring for me to see us all come together as a College community in celebration of our achievements and looking ahead to our future endeavors. This year was no exception. My sincere thanks and appreciation to each and every individual who contributed to making my last Niagara Day so meaningful and memorable.
Best wishes to all for a successful fall term!
