A message from Fiona Allan, outgoing Dean, Academic and Liberal Studies, incoming associate vice-president, Academic:
Academic and Liberal Studies is pleased to welcome the following new staff to our team:

Allan Walsh
Allan Walsh, Mathematics professor
Allan Walsh has a Masters in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Education. He has been teaching at Niagara College for 14 years. Allan has taught financial math and statistics to the Business, Hospitality and Tourism, Sports Management, Brewmaster, and Office Administration programs. Additionally, he has taught math for the Horticulture, Environmental, and Culinary programs. His interests and hobbies include playing music and fishing. Allan reports that he is, “really excited to be working at Niagara College for the rest of his career.”

Jim Timko
Jim Timko, Mathematics professor
Jeff Timko grew up in Stoney Creek, Ontario. After high school he attended the University of Waterloo where he earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mathematics. Jeff’s Masters thesis was the development of a quantum-mechanical model of the helium atom. Jeff then attended the University of Sydney in Australia where he completed a PhD with a biophysics group. His research involved analyzing certain biologically-relevant molecular systems using computer simulations. After completing his PhD, Jeff and his wife Sarah returned to southern Ontario and had their first son, Damon. Jeff then completed a Bachelor of Education at Brock University and began teaching part-time in the Mathematics department at Niagara College. Their second son, Adam, arrived two years later. After five years of teaching at NC, Jeff is very excited to begin his career as a full-time mathematics professor at the Welland campus.

Crystal Adams Coons
Crystal Adams Coons, Sociology professor
Crystal Adams Coons is a professor of Sociology in the School of Academic and Liberal Studies. She has been teaching at Niagara College for two years and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Women’s Studies and a Masters in Critical Sociology. Her academic interests include anti-oppressive teaching practices, intersectionality, and reconciliation. She primarily teaches the courses ‘Diversity, Activism and Social Change,’ and ‘Introduction to Sociology’.

Krasna K. Baotic
Krasna K. Baotic, Sociology/Criminology professor
Krasna K. Baotic is a professor of Criminology/Sociology in the School of Academic and Liberal Studies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and History with a focus in Criminology and a Master of Arts in Sociology. Having 13 years of teaching experience, Krasna has taught at Brock University, Trillium College, Mohawk College and at Niagara College for the past two years. Her professional interests include racial inequality in the criminal justice system, and sexuality studies. When she’s not at work, you can find her cooking, eating and watching basketball.

Adele Caruso
Adele Caruso, General Education Psychology professor
Adele Caruso is a professor in Liberal Studies. She has been teaching at Niagara since 2010 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a post-graduate degree in Education, and a Master of Science in Education. She is also a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. Adele has taught a variety of psychology courses, as well as diversity, academic and career preparation, and critical thinking. Her academic interests include experiential and active learning in education, as well as mental health and wellness.
