L-R: Former NCSAC director Lindsay McCormick, NCSAC president Tom Price and NC president Dan Patterson show off the Welland Campus' new rainbow crosswalk.

Niagara College president Dan Patterson and NC staff joined with NC’s Student Administrative Council to commemorate the installation of a rainbow crosswalk at the Welland Campus on June 28. NCSAC championed the student-led initiative after several discussions with students of the LGBTQ2+ community at Niagara College.

The Welland Campus crosswalk is located between the residence building and the south entrance to the NC Athletic Centre. A similar crosswalk will be installed at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus in the coming weeks. Both crosswalks were proposed by NCSAC and installed in collaboration with the college’s Facilities Management Services department.

“The rainbow crosswalks signify NCSAC’s resolute support for not only the LGBTQ2+ community on campus, but all communities and students at Niagara College,” said NCSAC president Tom Price. “They also signify the respectful partnership and collaboration between NCSAC, Niagara College, and the student body to ensure Niagara College is a safe, diverse, and inclusive space for all.”

Price also made special note of former NCSAC director Lindsay McCormick, who spearheaded the project.

On June 3, NCSAC and Niagara College also raised rainbow flags at both campuses to commemorate Pride Month.
