BP Sports Niagara announced the winner of the Ontario Basketball Association’s male coach of the year, none other than NC’s Mike Hurley, facilities coordinator, Athletics and Recreation.
In this feature story on Hurley, his life-long love and commitment to the game of basketball is evident. Hurley, a Fonthill resident, is executive member and coach of the Pelham Panthers. Hurley coached the NC men’s basketball team for 12 years. He formerly played for the NC Knights and Brock Badgers where he had the chance to travel and meet his wife Andrea while coaching.
Hurley and his wife still coach, and his son and daughter are both passionate about the game. He talks about his coaching philosophy which is rooted in “trust, honesty, hard work and respect.” Hurley also talks about the recent surge in interest in basketball thanks to the Toronto Raptors.
Hurley was nominated by both of his teams, described as “the most dedicated coach.”
