Staff, faculty and students – amateur and experienced cyclists alike – are invited to join the NC team this September.
For the first time, NC is putting a team together for the 11th Big Move Cancer Ride on Sunday, September 8. The annual fundraising event hosted by the Niagara Health Foundation draws hundreds of amateur and experienced cyclists from the Niagara region to ride in support of the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
“The Big Move Ride is a well-organized, safe community event in support of a great cause,” said NC team captain Joanne Maltby. “Niagara College is known for getting involved in our community and this is a fantastic way to show our school spirit. All skill levels are welcome to participate!”
Riders can register for the NC team and take part in one of the 25km, 50km or 75km rides, as well as the shorter family slow ride route. The ride kicks off at White Meadows Farm (St. Catharines/Pelham). Riders will cycle through the Niagara escarpment and the heart of Niagara’s sprawling wine country.
After the ride, all are welcome to enjoy a barbeque and join in the team photo.
All the funds raised stay in Niagara, making it possible for more than 2,500 Niagara residents diagnosed each year to receive a full spectrum of cancer services – including radiation treatment. The 2018 ride raised over $352,000, and since 2009, has raised over $4 million.
“The ride is a chance to accomplish something for yourself and for local patients,” said organizer Janet Pizzati. “You can absolutely ride at your own pace.”

Registration is open throughout the summer months. Riders have the option to order an NC-branded, high-performance cycling jersey, fit with pockets in the back and available in men’s and women’s sizing. NC organizers will be in touch with registrants with information about how to purchase their jersey.
For beginners and those looking to tune up their skills, the Niagara Health Foundation will announce training rides and introduction to tour cycling workshops in the coming weeks.
“If you’ve always wanted to ride but never had anyone to ride with, now you do,” said NC organizer Mike Pasquale.
If you’re not sure what the ride entails and want to learn more, NC’s Big Move Ride organizing team welcomes your questions:

NC organizers are in the early stages of bringing riders together and encourage staff and faculty to spread the word in your areas and among your students.
