Niagara Region Public Health will be providing training for interested NC administrative and support staff in the administration of naloxone. Several training sesssions were held earlier this month at the Welland Campus. Thanks to high demand, an additional training session for NC staff will be held at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus.

The session is scheduled for Friday, March 8, from 9-10 a.m. in room E208. Contact Don Cercone at ext. 6995 to register. Space is limited to the first 36 participants.

Naloxone is a medication used to block the effects of an overdose from opioids such as heroin, methadone, fentanyl and morphine. Naloxone kits are free in Ontario, and are available to anyone with a valid health card. The training, which will take about an hour, will acquaint employees with the proper use of the nasal spray kits, as well as how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose. Campus Safety staff and Paragon Security Guards have been trained in the use of the kits, which will be installed in the AED stations at both campuses in the coming weeks.

This training is strictly voluntary, and is currently open to Niagara College administrative and support staff. Sessions for interested faculty may be added at a later date.

Those interested in the training but unable to attend a session can view a brief presentation on the basics of naloxone and how to use it here: carrynaloxONe Sept 2018 FINAL.
