NOTL Courtyard to become ‘SAC-afeller Square’ for free skating event Jan. 18-19

The NC Student Administrative Council is helping students ‘break the ice’ as they begin winter semester by bringing a skating rink to the NOTL Campus.

On January 18 and 19, the NOTL Campus Courtyard will be transformed into a skating rink with free skating available from noon to 8 p.m. Inspired by the Rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City, NCSAC is calling its  skating in the courtyard experience ‘SAC-afeller Square.’

“We wanted to bring the ‘frost’ feel to Orientation Week for our January students. During the fall, we brought the carnival to Welland Campus, and wanted to bring the same level of experience for the students starting in January,” said NCSAC president Ryan Huckla. “With NOTL having such an amazing centre point, we thought an ice rink would be an ideal event!”

Everyone is welcome. Bring your own skates or skates will be available to borrow on site free of charge.  Skaters can also warm up with free hot chocolate.

“For many international students, this might be their first skating experience, and that is very exciting,” said Huckla. “We exist to make the student experience at NC the best it can be, and it is events like this one that make it so.”
