Welland Campus Library and Learning Commons welcomes new manager

A message from Karen McGrath, director of Libraries and Bookstore Services:

I am pleased to announce that Gordana Vitez has been appointed to the new position of manager, Library and Learning Commons at the Welland Campus effective Monday, Aug 29. She will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Library and Learning Commons components of the new integrated services model announced in May. These components include library services, peer tutoring, academic drop in support and test centre. The vision is to create a central location at each Campus for academic support services for students, faculty and staff alike. The process to staff an equivalent position at the NOTL Campus underway.

Gordana has been with Niagara College for 17 years. She began as a library technician at the NOTL Campus in 1999, and stepped up to the library systems and services coordinator at the Welland Campus in 2009. In these positions she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to excellent customer service for students, faculty and staff. She is collaborative by nature and has earned the recognition of her peers, faculty and management, both inside and outside the College as someone who is always aware of the big picture and is committed to ensuring our students’ academic success. She has been a sought after contributor to the committees working on consortial projects through the Heads of Libraries and Learning Resources as well.

Gordana earned her Master’s in Library Science from San Jose State University in California while working full-time. She has her Honours BA in History and English from University of Toronto. In addition she earned her library technician diploma from Sheridan College.

Gordana is very excited to take up these new challenges and to continue as one of Niagara College’s best ambassadors. I know you will join me in congratulating Gordana and wishing her well in her new position.
