A retirement celebration will be held for Arlene Churchill (pictured above) on April 29.
A message from Part-Time Studies:
Arlene Churchill is retiring after more than 25 years at Niagara College.
Arlene has been involved as a staff member in Ontario’s college system since the 1980s when she worked in the Part-Time Studies department at the Markham Campus of Seneca College. After three years at Seneca, in the fall of 1988, Arlene and her family moved to Fonthill and she started her Niagara College career the following February.
Arlene acquired a wealth of Niagara College knowledge in a short period of time as she initially occupied a series of staff replacement positions in a number of departments including the School of Business, The Mack School of Nursing, Financial Aid, Accounting, the Registrar’s Office and Part-Time Studies. On March 1, 1993, Arlene accepted the full-time role of customer service representative in Part-Time Studies, Welland Campus, where she remained as a much valued team member for 23 years. For much of that time, Arlene became recognized as the “face of Part-Time Studies” to countless students, faculty, and staff, and the community at large. Arlene’s responsibilities included preparing course materials for teachers and students, providing on-phone, in-person and on-line CE program information to the public, and – after the sun set and the majority of staff left for the day – independently providing first class service for any and all CE matters until 9 in the evening.
Included among so many of Arlene’s additional skills and talents is that of cook and baker extraordinaire. Over the years she has provided the sweet accompaniments, incredible cakes, pies, pastries and fudge for staff birthdays, holidays and other special events, and she also taught cooking and baking classes to young children in the Niagara Kids’ College summer activities. Arlene’s caring nature and fellowship extended beyond the office and the classroom, to the College committees in which she generously devoted her time, including the Support Team Recognition Planning group and the Giving Back children’s Christmas gift initiative.
Please join us in wishing Arlene a very fond farewell and a happy retirement on Friday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Part-Time Studies Office, room L24, at the Welland Campus.
