As we mark Emergency Preparedness Month – a national awareness initiative encouraging all Canadians to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies – Niagara College has launched a new Emergency Response Handbook for students, employees and visitors.
“Providing a safe learning and working environment is a top priority,” said Teresa Quinlin vice president Business Development. “An important part of achieving this goal is ensuring that each of us understands our role, and how to respond effectively and appropriately to a range of potential emergencies and hazardous situations.”
The handbook includes information about the college’s new 24/7 Security Control Centre, emergency alerting and notification, campus safety programs, emergency procedures, personal preparedness and campus safety tips.
“Emergencies can happen at any time, and it’s our collective responsibility to be informed and prepared,” said David Jastrubecki manager of Campus Safety and Parking Services. “I encourage you to take the time to review the handbook and familiarize yourself with the important information it contains.”
The handbook is now available online at www.niagaracollege.ca/security
In addition, all faculty and staff will receive a personal copy of the handbook (a portable, quick reference booklet) in September.
If you have questions regarding the Emergency Response Handbook or the College’s emergency response procedures, please contact Paula-Marie Jannetta Saric, Emergency Management coordinator at (905) 735-2211 ext. 6996.
