Employee Support and Services
How does Niagara College support Indigenous employees?
Niagara College is committed to ensuring that Indigenous students and employees have an excellent learning experience while at the college, one that is built on respect, support, and celebration of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing. To do this, the college relies on the expertise of the Indigenous Education Department and the Indigenous Education Management Circle.
Where can employees go to make accommodation requests?
Niagara College values the contributions of all employees and works to ensure an accessible workplace experience. Any employee who would like to discuss or make accommodation requests can speak to their direct manager or departmental contact, who will consult with Human Resources.
I have a suggestion about EDI, how do I share it?
If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions related to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at Niagara College, you can contact the EDI team, via email at [email protected].
I’ve experienced or witnessed a racist, homophobic, sexist, and/or ableist incident on campus. Where can I report it? Where can I access support?
If you are a employee and have witnessed a racist, homophobic, sexist, ableist or otherwise discriminatory incident on campus, please follow college processes for reporting hate and/or racism on campus and information related to accessing support.
I have an important religious date that is not a statutory holiday, but one I want to celebrate with my family and/or community. Can I request the day off from my manager?
All Niagara College employees can request time off for non-statutory holidays and are able to use any accumulated lieu time and/or have unpaid time off. Full time employees of Niagara College are eligible to two days of paid leave annually for non-statutory religious holidays that they celebrate. If you are a full-time employee, you can request the time off using the Attendance Requests and Balances section of the Oracle Employee Self-Serve app of the MyNC Portal. Make sure you mark them with the REL attendance code for non-stat religious holidays. As with all public sector employees in Ontario, employees’ eligibility for paid time off for non-statutory religious holidays is capped at two days annually. Beyond the two days, you can request additional the time off and, if granted, you will need to use your vacation day allowance, lieu time, or unpaid leave toward additional dates.
