Teaching feels different than it did even a few years ago.

AI, changing student expectations, questions about engagement and academic integrity, workforce demands, and pressures across postsecondary education are challenging some of the ways we’ve traditionally approached teaching and learning.

That doesn’t mean everything needs to change.

This three-part series is an opportunity to step out of the day-to-day pressures of teaching and explore some of the bigger questions underneath them:

• What do I still believe about good teaching?
• What is being challenged?
• What is actually within my influence?
• And what, if anything, do I want to do differently?

Through conversation, practical activities, and reflection with colleagues, you’ll examine your own teaching beliefs and practices, explore some of the tensions you may be navigating today, and make intentional choices about what you want to hold onto, rethink, or change.

This program is about developing greater clarity about who you want to be as an educator within the changes of post-secondary, and how that shows up in the choices you make with students.

Who is this program for?
This program is for faculty who are interested in thinking more deeply about their role as educators in a changing post-secondary environment.

It may be especially valuable if you are:
• noticing that some of the ways we have traditionally taught, assessed, or engaged students no longer work as well as they once did;
• wondering how AI, changing student needs, workforce expectations, and other pressures should or should not influence your teaching;
• interested in examining the beliefs and assumptions that shape your teaching choices;
• looking for ways to become more intentional about the learning experiences you design;
• curious about the kind of educator you want to be as higher education continues to change.

Come if you’ve found yourself questioning something about teaching lately. You don’t need to have the answers. That’s what we’ll explore together.

Three Sessions
This program is designed to run over three sessions to allow for a connected learning opportunity where each session builds on the other. Your presence in all sessions matters not only for your own learning, but also for the learning of the group. Over the three sessions, we hope to create enough continuity and trust for participants to move beyond sharing strategies and into some of the more interesting questions underneath them.

We will begin by examining some of the assumptions that have shaped teaching and learning, including our own beliefs about students, learning, and the educator’s role. From there, we will explore what is changing around us and what those changes challenge us to reconsider. The later sessions are about who you want to be as an educator in this environment, and how that might show up in the learning you design and your teaching practices.

Here is how the learning journey is envisioned:

Session 1 – What do I believe and what has shaped that?
Session 2 – What is changing, and what is mine to influence?
Session 3 – Who do I want to be as an educator within all the change that is happening-and what does that look like in my classroom, my curriculum, and my expectations of students?
