T&L Conversations are small, informal, and guided conversations akin to a book or journal club. Participants gather together to discuss key impressions of the focus resource and reflect on how the themes explored in the resource relate to our lived experiences as educators.

Join your NC colleagues and CAE staff in a guided conversation to discuss your insights and reflections on the following resource:

Battiste, Marie. (2013). “The Legacy of Forced Assimilative Education for Indigenous Peoples [Chapter Two]” in Decolonizing Education: Nourishing the Learning Spirit. UBC Press.

Access this book via the ncLibraries + Learning Commons catalogue: Decolonizing Education.

Note: You are only required to read Chapter Two, pages 23-33.

To further facilitate your engagement with this resource and reflect on the histories of colonization in Canada, we recommend consulting “Section 2: Colonization” in Pulling Together: Foundations Guide. To access the full Pulling Together series, including Pulling Together: Teachers and Instructors, visit the Indigenization Guides webpage from BC Campus.
