Spotlight On: WebQuest

October 8, 2020 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Please note that we close registration one hour before the session begins.
Annamarie Kelly, instructor from the School of Media Studies, shares how she used a WebQuest when the pandemic hit. With one major area of study to cover and two tests left she rolled the final lab and tests into a mini-project using the WebQuest technique.
A WebQuest is an inquiry-orientated activity in which some or all of the resources that learners interact with come from the Web or online resources (such as those in BlackBoard). It provides a way of creating a contextualized project that has 5/6 sections. These sections guide the student to create a final outcome based on a given task leaving them with no doubt as to how they will be marked and what the expected output is.
Educators can design WebQuests to be used with different technologies and they can be used with both individuals or groups of students.
Key objectives:
- Explore the sections that make up a WebQuest
- Explore how a WebQuest can engage students
- Work in groups to create the ‘Task’ section of a given example
- Share our work.
Please remember that to participate fully in the sessions, you will require a PC, laptop, tablet, or mobile device; a stable internet connection; and speakers (built-in or external). Collaborate will work most effectively on the Google Chrome browser.
NOTE: We will email you a link to join the session no later than one hour before the session.
