nIshnabek de’bwe wIn // telling our truths Project

March 4, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
On March 4, we have a panel of researchers sharing the outcomes of a SSHRC-funded project called nIshnabek de’bwe wIn // telling our truths. The project brought together representatives from three school boards across the province to run digital storytelling workshops for Indigenous students, teachers and non-Indigenous allies. The workshops provided teaching, technical support and the tools for participants to create digital stories about their schooling experiences. Upon completion, Educators in five district school boards were invited to watch/listen to the stories in a story-sharing circle, Wüléelham: Make Good Tracks.
The project was led by Dr. Susan Dion, an Aboriginal scholar who has been working in the field of education for over twenty-five years and is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at York University.
Dr. Dion and her project research team invite you to join them in conversation about learnings from the stories, from the perspectives of both the storytellers and the story listeners.
In particular, you will:
- View selected digital stories captured as part of the nIshnabek de’bwe wIn
- Discuss the experiences and reflections of the Wüléelham: Make Good Tracks story circles.
- Reflect upon the ways that storytelling, and specifically digital storytelling, can be infused into our teaching practices in our ongoing commitment to truth and reconciliation.
