Brightspace Grades: Key features and Tips and Tricks

The Grades tool in Brightspace is a crucial page in most college courses. It acts as an instructor work area for grade input, tracking, and grade calculations; as well as a student communication tool for viewing grades and feedback. Since the launch of Brightspace, the CAE have fielded your questions and requests for further clarification about Grades features and settings. These insights are what we’d like to share with you.
This webinar will highlight a variety of grade-related features and approaches that can help to simplify and refine grading and improve the clarity of student grades, including:
- Effective ways of structuring the grades tool.
- Understanding how grade categories alter grade display.
- Rounding final grade columns for simpler grade entry to PeopleSoft.
- Using rubrics for in class/non-submission-based assessments.
- Curating student grade pages with confidence.
- Displaying grading systems (Running Total, Weighted Average, or Both).
This session will provide a look at key features of interest in the grades tool and showcase how they can be used to make grading more efficient and ensure that students have timely information about their course grades.
