Part-Time Teachers’ Development Program

The PTTDP provides participants with essential knowledge, tools and techniques for teaching at Niagara College.

It is structured to encourage sharing among participants and to foster skills that enhance online instruction and inclusive learning environments. Programs are offered Fall (August), Winter (December) and Spring (April).

About PTTDP

Sessions are participative and include opportunities to:

  • analyze the components of key Niagara College course documents including course outlines and teaching and learning plans
  • explore a variety of active and inclusive teaching and learning strategies
  • discuss classroom management techniques focused on building community, and developing class routines to encourage student engagement
  • review relevant policies and practices, including those related to academic honesty, and accessibility
  • perform tasks and use tools within the Brightspace Learning Management System that facilitate communication, content sharing, and student evaluation
  • meet with student success and student administrative council staff and review the network of supports available for students at NC

Eligibility

The Part-Time Teachers’ Development Program is being offered to all new (eligible) Niagara College non-full-time instructors. This includes Niagara College non-full-time instructors who:

  • are new to the college, and if not new, have been specifically invited to complete the program by their Associate Dean, AND
  • are teaching at least one post-secondary or non-post-secondary credit course.

Program Structure

This year’s PTTDP session is being run virtually, and includes synchronous (live) portions, and asynchronous (individual) online modules. All of our virtual PTTDP sessions will be delivered using teaching tools commonly used at Niagara College.

Programs are offered Fall (August), Winter (December) and Spring (April).

Program Structure: Virtual Format

The program is one week in duration. Synchronous (live online) sessions will be hosted on Day 1 and Day 8 (3 hours each) using Brightspace and MS Teams. We will email you the link and additional instructions prior to the start of the program.

Asynchronous modules and activities can be completed anytime that is convenient for you on Day 2 through Day 7. All modules and activities will be available through the CAE’s Part-time Teachers’ Development Program organization site, which is located in our Brightspace Learning Management System. We will email you information about how to access Brightspace and our organization.

The structure is as follows:

Program Completion

To qualify for completion and payment for PTTDP, you must complete the full 10.5 hours of training, which includes all synchronous and asynchronous components and tasks.
