Gathering feedback from my students allows me to reflect and adapt my lessons to meet their needs and assist them in achieving their goal in their desired field. To supplement the College’s Course Feedback surveys, I build opportunities for formative feedback throughout the term using Nearpod’s Collaborate boards. As educators, we need to recognize that providing a variety of ways for a student to respond allows them to provide richer and more detailed feedback while creating a culture where student voice is valued and appreciated.
One of my goals is to provide my students with meaningful and interactive assignments and activities that allow them to practice the skills they will be using in the workplace. We use the student feedback that has been collected as a basis for class discussions, which contributes to interpersonal and communication skills. Students get an opportunity to hear what their peers have contributed, and they can expand on the conversation by providing input based on their experiences. Taking the time in class to complete and discuss feedback allows students to ask questions, allows for me to clarify questions or provide examples and ultimately, I receive feedback that I can apply across all my courses. I know that my students are willing to provide honest and meaningful feedback because I will always try to implement their suggestions.
