Brightspace Course Deactivation In response to student feedback, beginning at the end of the Fall 2024 Term Niagara College will automatically deactivate courses in Brightspace 90 days after course completion. Courses and their content will remain visible and available to faculty but students will not have access to courses from previous terms after deactivation. This procedure will simplify students’ course widget and access to current courses. If faculty need to reactivate courses for any reason, they can do so by following the steps to make a course active

Technology Updates

Brightspace Groups – Restore groups and categories A new Recycle Bin option is available in the Groups tool, enabling you to restore individual group units or entire categories within a course offering. When you restore groups, existing enrollments and lockers are also reinstated (if present). Any activities linked to the restored groups, such as discussions or assignments, can then be individually restored through their respective restore pages.

MS Stream – Update video redirect links
The college is currently approaching the final step in the multi-year transition from MS Stream Classic to MS Stream (on SharePoint). As this transition nears its conclusion, we are reminding Stream users about the need to update any redirected video links and embedded video to which other college users need access.

As of August 21, 2023, all videos hosted on Stream Classic were migrated to Stream (on SharePoint). During the migration process, links to videos on Steam Classic were redirected or re-pointed to same video in Stream (on SharePoint). However, redirect links that point to the migrated videos are only supported until February 2025. After this date, migrated Stream videos linked or embedded from other locations, such as Brightspace, may no longer be accessible to students or other users.

If you have already relinked some or all of your migrated videos after the migration, you do not need to relink those videos again. If you have not yet relinked your videos, it is recommended that you do so prior to February 2025. While your Stream (on SharePoint) videos will remain available to you after this date, other users may not be able to access them. Updating video links prior to February 2025 will allow you to follow a simpler process than will be available after that date.

The CAE has created a comprehensive video guide to help you complete these steps in an efficient manner. This guide provides detailed instructions on how to access migrated videos in Stream and reshare them as needed. You can access additional information on the ITS webpage as well as the video guide here: Updating Stream Migrated Video Links.
