Term Dates

Specific term dates can be found on the Important Dates Calendar. Term dates, holidays, and break weeks for past, current, and future terms are available.

Break Weeks

Most in-class courses follow the 7-1-7 semester model. Each term is made up of seven weeks of instruction, a one-week break week and another seven weeks of instruction. Please check your course’s scheduling as some courses are not affected by the Break Week. Break weeks are typically represented in your schedule by having 2 blocks of classes; one block before the  break week, and another block after the break week.

Class Start and Finish Dates

Start and finish dates may vary by class. Please check your Confirmation of Enrolment or Important Dates for start and end dates. Instructor notes and course material is accessible within the start and end dates of the course. Student access is disabled after the course has ended with the exception of scheduled final exams. Final grades are assessed based on achievements during the course. The last day to withdraw without receiving a grade for most courses is approximately two-thirds through the course duration. This date will be adjusted accordingly for courses that start early or late. (See: Fees, Refunds and Withdrawals)

Holidays

Niagara College recognizes statutory holidays. Please see Important Dates for the listing of statutory holidays that may affect your term course(s).

Official Teaching Hours

Each teaching contact hour consists of a 50 minute block plus a break of up to ten minutes. The scheduling of breaks within any class session is at the discretion of the teacher and students.
