Niagara College’s Motorcycle Rider Training Programs run April to October every year on weekends (Friday evenings and during the day on Saturday and Sunday) and occasional weekdays.

Instructors are required to provide an effective and inviting learning environment for students and impart the proper rules of the road and techniques required to properly handle a motorcycle. Following an approved training curriculum, instructors prepare students to be licensed according to the Ontario Driver Certification Program.

Qualifications

  • Completing Canada Safety Council Motorcycle Instructor training program at Niagara College
  • Be in good standing with the MTO with a clean driving record
  • Minimum 3 years of licensed motorcycle riding experience
  • Excellent written / oral communications
  • Proficient with standard computer software applications
  • Attend certification training, at the expense of the incumbent
  • Experience teaching or coaching is an asset
  • Your submission must include a copy of your motorcycle driver’s license
  • Current and up to date Standard First Aid is also required before being considered as an instructor (eg. St. John Ambulance)

Applicants may be required to a skills demonstration/practical examination.

Please Note: Successful completion of the Instructor Training course does not guarantee employment as an Instructor at Niagara College.

Course Details:

This Canada Safety Council Motorcycle Instructor’s Training Program is designed to prepare participants to become potential instructors in the motorcycle safety training program – “Gearing Up”. Instructing, testing and riding techniques are examined in this course. NOTE: Participants must have at least 3 years licensed (Class M) motorcycle driving experience; have completed a first aid course (eg. St. John Ambulance); have an excellent driving record and be prepared to have their records verified through the Ministry of Transportation.

Important: Registered participants will be required to attend a Basic Rider Training session during the current season (Oct 18th or Oct 25th sessions) to shadow a current instructor as a first step to taking the course.  You will be contacted to make arrangements once the college has received confirmation of registration.
