The Game of Soccer and Its Impact on Society

Students examine how the game of soccer impacts socioeconomic, religious, political, and cultural views in countries around the globe. Students discover and analyze cultural trends and human behaviors influenced by soccer ideology and its effects on "pop culture." This course promotes critical thinking and encourages students to view literature, music and the media in a new light. Students analyze topics such as nationalism and globalization as they research the popularity and growth of soccer. Through in-class activities, research, assigned readings and interactive lectures, students explore how soccer has embedded itself around the globe.
