Diversity in Canada

Course Code: SOCL1424P
Credits: 3
Term: 2025 Fall

One of the great things about life on this planet is our human diversity as a species- it is a source of strength, growth, and innovation. The ability to work with diverse populations is something top employers in Canada look for in potential employees as Canada's population continues to grow more diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, age, ability, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. In this course, students will learn about the varied social identities found among communities and groups in Canada's pluralistic society; policies that have been put in place to manage and accommodate diversity; tensions and challenges such as reduced social cohesion, economic inequity and discrimination; and opportunities accompanying diversity. Students will develop strategies to create socially inclusive, just and equitable environments and other diversity competency skills demanded in today's workplace.
