A History of Organized Crime: The Rise of Globalized Crime through the 20th Century
This course examines the development of the global nature of criminal organizations through the 20th century. Tracing the growth of late 19th century mafia in Europe and North America to their corporate involvement of the 20th century will be compared to the rise of organizations in Eastern Europe after the fall of the USSR. The creation of the global reach of Asian, African and Middle Eastern crime syndicates and gangs will form the discussion of the late 20th century, leading to the more recent use of cyber networks to coordinate and increase economic and political power of these groups.
