A message from President Sean Kennedy:
Since forming Niagara College’s Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce in the winter of 2021, a group of dedicated students and employees from a breadth of backgrounds and lived experiences have been committed to a shared goal of helping to foster a more inclusive, diverse, culturally, and globally engaged college community. The Taskforce – a partnership with the Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) – represents our shared support for inclusion on all dimensions and human rights for all people.
The goal of the Taskforce is to create the Niagara College Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Blueprint to guide our community. This work is paramount to maintaining and strengthening our collective commitment to being a welcoming, respectful and inclusive college, and to ensure all our programs, services, physical spaces and policies are accessible and equitable.
In December, the Taskforce welcomed four new students:
Bailey Busch, Honours Bachelor of Business Administration – Human Resources Program
Bri Irvine, Social Service Worker Program
Dipal Patel, Exercise Science for Health and Performance Program
Mia Currin, Honours Bachelor of Business Administration – Hospitality Program
We also welcomed the new Workplace Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Manager, Samah Sabra, to the College in November 2021. Samah provides leadership for inclusive campus programs, practices and initiatives and looks forward to continued collaboration across the College.
The Taskforce has reached an exciting juncture in its work. The next step in this important process will involve all of you. Consultations with students, employees and other campus stakeholders will take place this spring to ensure the final framework – launching in the fall of 2022 – aligns and reflects the voices of NC community members. Please stay tuned for an announcement on how you can participate.
On behalf of NC’s Executive Team and NCSAC leadership, it is our hope that all of you – students and employees – will engage with this important process and weigh in on the future of NC’s equity, diversity, and inclusion strategy for the betterment of our current and future NC community.
